Failed to Retrieve Server Data for the Server #Number

How to fix the "Failed to retrieve server data for the server #Number" error when setting up MEE6 on your Discord server.

If you're seeing this error when trying to set up MEE6 on your Discord server, don't worry — we can help you fix it.

What This Error Means

The error "Failed to retrieve server data for the server #[number]" appears after you authorize MEE6 through Discord. The number shown (like #159962941502783488) is your Discord server's ID.

This error means that there is no MEE6 bot in the server, you don't have the needed permissions to access the dashboard of this server, or that there is a technical issue.

Common Causes

This error can happen for several reasons:

1. MEE6 Bot Not in Server

The most common cause is that the MEE6 bot is not actually in your Discord server yet. When you click "Setup" on the MEE6 dashboard, you need to complete the Discord authorization to add the bot to your server.

2. Permission Issues

The Discord account you're logged into on the MEE6 dashboard must have the "Administrator" permission on the server. This permission comes by default if you're the Server Owner, or from having any role that has the Administrator permission enabled. Having "Manage Server" permission is not enough.

Server Owners have Administrator permission by default. If you have a role called "admin" or similar, make sure it actually has the Administrator permission enabled — the name of the role doesn't matter, only the permission does. If your server has Premium, Bot Masters can also access the MEE6 dashboard.

3. Wrong Discord Account

You might be logged into a different Discord account on the MEE6 dashboard than the one that manages your server.

4. Other Bots Interfering

Some Discord bots have settings that automatically kick bots with names of popular Discord bots. This can prevent MEE6 from joining your server.

5. MEE6 Service Issues

Occasionally, this error can be caused by a temporary issue with our backend services — not your permissions or settings.

How to Fix It

Follow these troubleshooting steps in order:

Step 1: Verify Your Discord Account

  1. Check the top-right corner of the MEE6 dashboard to see which Discord account you're logged in with.

  2. Make sure the username and avatar match the Discord account you use to manage your server.

  3. If they don't match, log out of the MEE6 dashboard and log back in with the correct account.

Step 2: Check Your Server Permissions

  1. If you're not the Server Owner or a Bot Master, check your server's Server Settings → Roles in Discord.

  2. Find your roles and check them.

  3. Make sure at least one of your roles has the Administrator permission enabled (not just Manage Server). Note: Server Owners have this by default.

  4. If you had to enable it, save the changes and try the MEE6 setup again.

Step 3: Check for Bot Conflicts

  1. Check your server's Audit Log to see if MEE6 is being kicked immediately after joining.

  2. Review the settings of other bots you have installed (like Wick, Dyno, or similar moderation bots).

  3. Look for settings that automatically ban or kick bots with certain names — disable these temporarily.

Step 4: Check for Active Outages

Visit our Support Server at discord.gg/mee6 and check the #status-updates channel for any known issues.

Step 5: Try Again Later

If you've verified all the above and the error persists, wait 10-15 minutes and try again. Temporary service issues are usually resolved quickly.
